Exercise 2: Sentences 11–20
11. He kept the fast for a week.
Word: Fast
Part of Speech: Noun
Reason: It is the name of a thing (the period of abstaining from food). It is also preceded by the article "the," which usually signals a noun.
12. He is on the committee.
Word: On
Part of Speech: Preposition
Reason: It shows the relationship between "the committee" (its object) and the person "He."
13. Let us move on.
Word: On
Part of Speech: Adverb
Reason: It modifies the verb "move" by indicating the direction or continuance of the action. It does not have an object following it.
14. Sit down and rest a while.
Word: While
Part of Speech: Noun
Reason: It denotes a period of time. In this context, it is the object of the (implied) preposition "for" or simply functions as a noun indicating duration.
15. I will watch while you sleep.
