Exercise 3: Sentences 14–25

14. Whose book is this?

  • Adjective: Whose

  • Noun it qualifies: book

  • Reason: This is an Interrogative Adjective used to ask about ownership of the "book."

15. Any fool can do that.

  • Adjective: Any

  • Noun it qualifies: fool

  • Reason: An Adjective of Number (Indefinite), used to mean "one or every" of its kind.

16. Each dog has his day. (Note: Similar to sentence #3, but using "Each")

  • Adjectives: Each, his

  • Nouns they qualify: dog (Each), day (his)

  • Reason: "Each" is a Distributive Numeral Adjective; "his" is a Possessive Adjective.

17. Neither statement is true.

  • Adjective: Neither

  • Noun it qualifies: statement

  • Reason: A Distributive Numeral Adjective that considers two things and denies both.

18. Every word of it is false.

  • Adjective: Every

  • Noun it qualifies: word

  • Reason: A Distributive Numeral Adjective that refers to all parts of a group individually.

19. Which pen do you prefer?

  • Adjective: Which

  • Noun it qualifies: pen

  • Reason: An Interrogative Adjective used to ask for a choice between specific "pens."

20. That boy is industrious.

  • Adjective: That, industrious

  • Nouns they qualify: boy

  • Reason: "That" is a Demonstrative Adjective (pointing out which boy); "industrious" is an Adjective of Quality (describing his character).

21. Those apples are ripe.

  • Adjectives: Those, ripe

  • Noun they qualify: apples

  • Reason: "Those" is a Demonstrative Adjective (plural); "ripe" is an Adjective of Quality describing the state of the apples.

22. What present shall I give him?

  • Adjective: What

  • Noun it qualifies: present

  • Reason: An Interrogative Adjective.

23. I have some rice.

  • Adjective: some

  • Noun it qualifies: rice

  • Reason: An Adjective of Quantity, telling us "how much" rice.

24. He has little intelligence.

  • Adjective: little

  • Noun it qualifies: intelligence

  • Reason: An Adjective of Quantity, indicating a small amount.

25. He showed much patience.

  • Adjective: much

  • Noun it qualifies: patience

  • Reason: An Adjective of Quantity, showing a large degree of a quality.
